Color:Medium garnet . light for a cab.
Nose shaved pencil, blackberry, just ripe cherry, rare steak, caramel, bitter chocolate.
Palate: the body is light, cranberry, white pepper, fig, soft and sweet tannins. Plum compote, stewed and stick blended cherry.
About 16 months in a blend of Hungarian and French oak. 80% Hungarian.
This cab is an interesting anomaly. It’s a cab, but it’s light and nimble.
It seems like something “non-cab”, something almost cool climate syrah like.
Not to be paired wih a “heavy piece of meat”, like Ron Jeremy-
Rather, a hanger steak, a light dinner, something with just tiny tendons of fat, but still carne that’d benefit from a soy marinade,(garlic, herb, and all that stuff.)
It has a 25-30 yr old personality, and instead of a 45 year old “Male” cabernet like the ones in Napa Valley, this one is extremely Bordeaux like. Albeit a younger one.
Perhaps a fetching young Hungarian honey, relocated to france, and Noticed at a café sipping on a glass of red wine. Dressed somewhat like a “hipster”, but a little more together thatn that.
She’s smart. Real balanced for such a young girl. Not quite thin, but she doesn’t have a fat ass like some of those city girls.(Not that I look down on anything like that, I love it, but I digress…) It’s a daytime sexiness. An approachable one, that doesn’t have a bad attitude, poncy way, or better yet-a husband.
75º, Saturday, and a friendly look that catches your eye as you glance at her.
Interested.
Man, she’s cute. But she’s been through a lot, and she notices you.
She likes it.
You love it.
This is an impress your date wine.
One of the best I’ve tasted at the price for a value like it in a long time.
Call it a Cab, but wait until after you meet her. She’ll come with you.
“Taxi”.

2007 Barranc dels Closos Priorat Mas Igneus
Color: See through Garnet
Nose: Floral. Violet, copper, a little barnyard,
Palate: Milky Way candy bar, spicy forward tannins. Red apple, strawberry/cherry juice
Weight: Middlin’ mid to back straight on palate
Eyes that change from brown to green.
What a youngster.
Greenish, a little dry humor, red skirt, thigh length blowing slightly with a little breeze.
Surprisingly, she’s a little lighter than you’d be led to believe from what you’ve heard about her friends. Her ass is still tight and small, but it’s all good when she’s got a good shape.
A glance and a blink. Blinks= an interest. She’s a newer vintage than you usually do,
But she’ll be a freak in the sack after a few more years after she gets truly in to the workforce. I’d do her now; she’s all flighty, all over the place. I expect that from a youngster. She pays her rent about a week late. Get to her before she moves.
But you can always call her late, after the 1st bottle. But it’s better if you start with her and go from there.
I’ve got her number. The color of her skins, float with the sun shining off them.
Her tiny upper shape will fill out with a few meals; the behind will finish great after the afternoon BBQ.
She’s a little underweight, but she’ll perform well with a little time.
Just feed her some carne, corn tortillas, grilled or course, a little avocado.
Get her#. It won’t cost you too much to take her out. Go Dutch.
Barranc dels Closos Priorat Mas Igneus 2007
70% Garnatxa Negra
25% Carinyena

I give it an 86

Brujeria Red 2007 S.E Australia
Clarity: Opaque purple, to garnet (what’d you expect?)
Nose: Plum pancake syrup, blueberry syrup, dark cocoa, sage
Mouth feel: Velvet curtain, avocado.
Palate: spearmint, real fresh oaky vanillin. Ripe red plum. Elderberry. A fat chunk of Cherry pie.
Nutmeg. Rare steak. Tobacco. Jasmine tea.
Now, these guys have balls enough to name their wine “Brujeria”. For those of you that don’t know about this reference. Wikipedia “Mike Patton”.
The Spanish word for “witchcraft”.
I’ll buy that. A juvenile witch. She owns a few ‘Misfits” cd’s. “Walk among us”.
This wine is a perfect pairing with smoky bar, walk in and the 1st thing you hear is Black Sabbath’s “The Mob Rules”(with Ronnie James Dio’s (may he rest in peace) eleven metal vocal styling)
After about 15 min, the playlist changes. The Misfits.
Now this wine really stretches it’s legs.
The punk rock girl with the short-skirted black lace dress and 12 hole Doc Martens leans against the bar with a Labatt’s blue (I was born in Detroit, so my Midwest translation and vernacular applies, hence the extra “s”)
This wine traipses through the club, not too serious, although it might take itself seriously just for a moment. The Lincoln repo town car’s parked on the street in back of St. Andrews hall. Just outside the parking lot. So parking’s free.
This wine skirts the mainstream. It’s raw. Just as it wants to be.
It’s’ meant to drink, then take your date from the bar, who likes wine, but who’s just being introduced to it, back to the apt.
Now this wine’s nose is reminiscent of your leather clad, old punk rock t-shirt closet.
The blend. Hybrid moments.
Ooh baby when you cry
Your face is momentary
You hide your looks behind these scars
In hybrid moments
Give me a moment.
When you decide to eat, it’s 3 am. A run to the Mexican 24 hr burrito place underneath the ambassador bridge is perfect.
Refried beans, carne, cheese; avocado is perfect.
This wine is late night. It’s not for the “connoisseur”.
It’s for the newbie. It’s for the people that don’t give a f*ck.
They pick beer 1st. But they hear their friends talk about wine.
You’re getting older. She’s getting younger.
After she leaves in the morning, doing the walk of shame”, she hops in her Ford Taurus. You head to the market to order another 6 pack.
It’s perfect for carne. A little Serrano pepper or Jalapeño. The fat fruit picks up on the spice. The Sugars take the punch without a skip. Welcome it.
It’s a pretty monochromatic wine. But fun. It takes me back 20 yrs to my old punk pinnacle. I love it for a party. It

Larose De Gruaud 2006 Saint-Julien
Nose: Stone. Cinnamon currant. A little barnyard.
Mouthfeel: Medium velvet beanbag.
Color: The bastard child of light garnet and violet. Nice clarity.
Palate: fresh picked blackberry. Cinammon, Curry, red currant or cranberry, pipe tobacco, plum tart, clove, chocolate/
French oak stands out, but it’s nicely tempered and balanced. (It’s relaxed, but there’s a little attitude that simmers under the surface)
French oak stands out, but it’s nicely tempered and balanced. (It’s relaxed, but there’s a little attitude that simmers under the surface)
This wine fools you. She looks a little older than she actually is. A little country French girl frontin’ like she’s Marie Antoinette.
She really likes those blackberry filed cocoa dusted chocolate squares.
She’s smiling coquettishly at the Leadbelly bluesman performing on the sidewalk, waiting for $ to be tossed in the hat.
They make eye contact.
And later, at the end of the day, they share an espresso and the chocolate, speaking introductory niceties in between bites. Chewing, mouths open.
He’s been over in France for about 3 weeks. After he graduated college, he grabbed his guitar and hopped a flight. Lives in a tiny apt. Decorated with linen on a laundry line. Cobblestoned Street in front.
She bands over to pull up her stockings and he gets a look down her shirt.
Suddenly, the day’s sunset, lingers, slows down, and they take time to truly appreciate the experience. With no agenda.
But after a minute or 2, they decide to meet for drinks later.
She’s 18. But, in Europe who the hell cares.
Great now. Sexy and young. But lay her down for another 10 years, and she’ll be Marie, all bustiered and hoop skirted.
57% Cabernet. 30% Merlot. 8% C. Franc, 3 % Petit Verdot, 2% Malbec.
About 6 ton per acre yield
Manual Harvest. Aged for 14 months in both new and used French oak.

Pelerin Sangiovese 2006, Arroyo Seco
Color: ruby. Gritty.
Nose: Black pepper or white/tri-color ground pepper. Tight acidity. Pomegranate. Blue ink. Blackberry cherry cola.
Palate: farmhouse kitchen stewed red cherry. Fresh red apple skins. Milk chocolate truffles, toffee, gravel. Fig. Very long finish. Oak comes, presents itself then goes. A little touch of celery.
Rhubarb Pie almost too ripe to harvest. Firm tannins. Medium weight.
I’m impressed, for a California Sangiovese it’s pretty old world. Not fat or muddled.
Sangiovese in a snapshot. Not flaccid or too damn fat and ripe.
Makes me think of a farmhouse. Driving though the countryside Car stops, turns right up a 2-track rd; the green grass stokes the bottom off the car. Man answers the door with salt and pepper hair and glasses. Daughter peeks over stage left shoulder, little sis 2 arms upon the waist. Sultry. The little kid runs inside, feet slapping.
Your eyes meet with the “get me out of here” pleading, lightly sad but ready.
She runs the tip of her finger up your chest without him seeing. Whispers in your ear. This reminds me of a Russ Meyer movie. Mudhoney.
The inside of the house smells like the early 60’s with photos of Sinatra, Prima, Tommy Lasorda, and some other Italian guy you cant name on the wall. A family picture of her father and the kids, her mother behind the kids’ center.
Drips with tobacco. Pomade of grape. Your dinner’s steak and corn.
When he goes to sleep, you wait for her as the runs out with a small suitcase, hopping in and slamming the door.
“Let’s go”.
You put the foot to the wheel. Wheat grass looking back on you. Thumbs up.
A kiss on the cheek and freedom.
